Let us tell you that in December 2023, the Supreme Court had ordered the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to be conducted by 30 September 2024. At the same time, the Election Commission has also set a deadline of August 20 to update the voters list, so there is every possibility that the date of Jammu and Kashmir elections will be announced after August 20.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has also recently visited Jammu and Kashmir. During this time, he expressed his commitment to conduct elections in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible. Along with this, regarding the increasing terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Election Commissioner had clearly said that if any internal or external force in Jammu and Kashmir thinks that they can interfere and force us to postpone the elections, then I want to clearly tell them that we will never let their plan be fulfilled.

Let us tell you that before this, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2014. No party got a majority in this election, then BJP and Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) formed the government together. After this, in the year 2018, BJP broke the alliance with PDP and the government fell. Shortly after the fall of the government, on August 5, 2019, the Narendra Modi government at the Center abolished Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
