New York: During India’s Independence Day celebrations held in America, New York’s mayor Eric Adams repeatedly took the name of Pakistan by mistake. Then an Indian got angry. He shouted at the Indian mayor again and shut him up. The Indian made the New York mayor realize his mistake. Then Mayor Eric Adams became completely silent. Actually, Eric Adams, in his speech at a celebration held in Queens on the occasion of India’s Independence Day, addressed India as ‘Pakistan’ by mistake several times. This angered an Indian. The Indian shouted and said that we are talking about India, not Pakistan.

Adams attended the ‘India Day Parade’ held in Queens on Saturday. The stage from where he addressed the expatriate community was decorated with balloons in the colours of the Indian national flag and a banner was placed on it, which read “Mayor Adams Celebrates the Indian Community”. Adams himself appeared painted in the colours of India in the ceremony. He was holding the national flags of India and America. He was surrounded by people from the Indian community on all sides, who were waving the Indian flag in the air. Despite all this, when Adams started his address, he mistakenly took the name of Pakistan three times instead of India.

What did Adams say?

Adams said, “We waved the flag in Bowling Green earlier this week. A large number of people from this community are taking up the responsibility of law enforcement. These are the Pakistani officers who are coming forward, whose number is increasing and who are constantly showing that public safety is important for our prosperity.” He said, “I thank you for inviting me here. I have known this community for a long time, from Little Pakistan and Queens, from Little Pakistan and Brooklyn, you are a major foundation of our city, so let’s celebrate your freedom.” Then someone from the crowd shouted ‘India’, ‘We are talking about India.
