The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. The National Human Rights Commission issued a press statement on Friday stating that NHRC is very upset with the news of killing people after terrorists identified their faith in Pahalgam.
The Commission condemns this cowardly attack on unarmed and unaware innocent citizens who have come on holiday in the valley. This incident has shaken the conscience of every right thinking person. This is a serious issue of human rights violations of innocent victims and their families.
Repeatedly stated on various forums that terrorism is one of the biggest causes of human rights violations in the world. Now the time has come to take action against those who aid, support and promoting terrorism and they should be held accountable for this danger.
Otherwise, as a result, democratic space may shrink, threats, vengeance, harmony between communities may be affected and there may be serious violations of various human rights including life, freedom, equality, fraternity and livelihood rights.
The Commission said that it is expected that the state will take all necessary steps to decide the accountability; Will bring criminals under the purview of justice and provide assistance to the victim families in every possible way.
It is to be known that 26 people were killed and more than 20 people were injured in a terrorist attack on Tuesday (April 22) in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Local residents were also among the injured. After this attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left his foreign tour and returned to India. Several major decisions including the Indus Water Agreement were taken in the important meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening (April 23).
