The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an armed member of the Naxalite organization ‘People’s Liberation Front of India’ (PLFI) after raids in Jharkhand and Assam. This information was given in an official statement released on Thursday. It said that the NIA, with the help of local police, conducted raids and searches at two places each in Jharkhand and Assam on Wednesday. According to the NIA statement, Binod Munda alias Sukhwa was arrested from Khunti district of Jharkhand during the raid.
Phone, cash and objectionable material also recovered
The investigating agency said that the accused is an armed member of Naxalite group PLFI and he was wanted in four cases related to PLFI in Jharkhand. According to NIA investigation, PLFI members and cadre are involved in extortion from coal traders, transporters, railway contractors and businessmen in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in an effort to revive Naxalite activities. During the search, the investigating agency team also recovered several incriminating materials including two walkie-talkies, five mobile phones, SIM cards and Rs 11,000 in cash, documents related to PLFI.

It is noteworthy that two accused have already been arrested in this case and Rs 3 lakh in cash, arms and ammunition were recovered from them. A case was registered on October 11, 2023, against Martin Kerkatta and other members under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their efforts to restart the organization’s activities after the arrest of PLFI supremo Dinesh Gope by the NIA.
