New Delhi. The Meteorological Department (IMD) estimates that there will be dense fog in the northern parts of the country for the next few days. According to the department, there will be dense fog in many parts of Punjab till December 31 and in western Uttar Pradesh till January 4. Dense fog is expected to prevail in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and eastern Uttar Pradesh till Monday. Dense fog is expected to prevail in Uttarakhand till January 4 and in Northern Madhya Pradesh, Northern Rajasthan and Jharkhand till Monday.
Cold wave has been predicted in some parts of Punjab, some parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and North Rajasthan on Sunday. The maximum temperature recorded in Delhi on Saturday was 20.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 11.8 degrees Celsius. This is five degrees more than normal.
The Meteorological Department has predicted partly cloudy sky with moderate to dense fog in the national capital and its surrounding areas on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be between 19 and 11 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave continues in Kashmir
Despite slight improvement in night temperature on Saturday, cold continues in Kashmir Valley. Due to dense morning fog, there was obstruction in the movement of pedestrians and vehicles in the valley. Drivers had to use flashers and headlights. The minimum temperature in Srinagar city on Saturday was minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, while in Gulmarg and Pahalgam it was minus 2.5 and minus 4.1 degrees Celsius respectively, a weather office statement said.
On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Leh city of Ladakh region was minus 13 degrees Celsius, minus 8.8 in Kargil and minus 10 degrees Celsius in Dras. The minimum night temperature was 7.7 in Jammu city, 8.2 in Katra, 4.6 in Batote, 2.2 in Bhaderwah and 1.2 degree Celsius in Banihal. Kashmir is currently going through a 40-day harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai Kalan’ which starts on 21 December and will end on 30 January.
