The Haryana Sports Department is in trouble, as wrestler Vinesh Phogat, a wrestler, was asked to choose one of a cash reward of Rs 4 crore, plot or group A job, but he has asked for both cash and plot. This request has put the authorities in uncertainty about what to do next. On 25 March, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini announced that the cabinet has decided to allow one of the three benefits to the silver medal winner, considering the Paris Olympic, which is now a Congress MLA – a Congress MLA – being overweight. The department then wrote a letter to him, giving him a cash prize, HSVP (Haryana Urban Development Authority) plot or an option to choose one from the Group A job. However, Phogat also accepted a cash prize of Rs 4 crore and also demanded a plot – which is equivalent to the plot to the Olympic silver medalist under the state policy. A sports department official said, “Given his unique situation, he had to choose one, but he has asked for both.” He said that being an MLA, he is unlikely to go into a government job.
Phogat reached the finals in the 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics last year, but was disqualified due to her weight being more than 100 grams from the limit on August 7. In Olympic rules, weight categories are strictly applied and even a nominal excesses cause disqualification. It is noteworthy that she was within a range of 49.9 kg during her initial weight measurement on 6 August.
A day after being disqualified, CM Saini posted on X: “Not only Haryana, but the whole country is proud of Vinesh Phogat. He will get all the benefits of being a silver medal winner.” A few hours later, Phogat announced his retirement.
