Bhubaneswar. Women employees working in government and private sectors in Odisha will get menstrual leave with pay. State Deputy CM Pravati Parida made this announcement after the Independence Day celebrations in Cuttack on Thursday. Deputy CM Pravati Parida is also the minister in charge of the Women and Child Development Department. She said that “this leave will be optional and can be taken on the first or second day of the menstrual cycle depending on the choice of the woman.” By doing this, Odisha has joined the ranks of Bihar, which provides menstrual leave for working women.
This initiative of the Odisha government is part of the 100-day action plan of CM Mohan Majhi’s government. Majhi was sworn in as CM on June 12. Kerala has introduced menstrual leave for female students in state universities in January 2023. In the last Lok Sabha, Kerala Congress MP Hibi Eden had tried to implement menstrual leave across the country through a private member bill. In which three days leave was demanded for working women.
