Now you will not receive fake voice calls
The government has issued a warning to access service providers to curb spam calls. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently held a meeting with industry stakeholders regarding this. In this meeting, along with taking action against spam callers, the problems faced by users due to unsolicited commercial calls and hearing their complaints were discussed.
Incorrect use of headers and content templates
According to the government, headers and content templates are being misused without entity information, which is a matter of concern. Access service providers will have to take care of this. In this meeting, it was also discussed in the meeting between the government and industry stakeholders that access service providers and delivery telemarketers will have to trace and identify those who send such messages.
It was said in the meeting that as per TRAI regulations, enterprise business customers should use Distributed Laser Technology i.e. DLT for bulk communications like any kind of promotional robotic calls, auto-dialer calls and pre-recorded calls.
Guidelines issued for bulk communication
TRAI has issued guidelines to all stakeholders, especially service access providers and their delivery telemarketers, to take proactive action regarding such bulk communications and to find a technical solution to trace bulk calling made using 10 digit numbers through PRI/SIP.
Extra time for feedback
Just last month, the Central Government has given 15 days extra time to all the stakeholders to give their feedback on the draft guidelines issued by TRAI to curb fake calls. The Consumer Affairs Department has also received many suggestions regarding spam calls, which are being investigated.
It was also decided in the meeting that the industry should continue to assist the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Department of Consumer Affairs to curb bulk spam calls and messages.
New number series of 160
Recently, the Department of Telecommunications has launched a new number series of 160 for telemarketers in the banking and insurance sector to prevent financial fraud. Telemarketers associated with the banking and insurance sector will now have to use this new number series to make telemarketing calls.
