sim card new rules
The government has once again decided to change the rules for mobile numbers. Due to this new change, it will become easier to buy a mobile SIM. This new rule for buying a mobile SIM card is not for Indian users. This change is for foreign citizens. Due to this new rule, it will be easier for foreign citizens coming to India to buy a SIM here.
What is the new change?
Earlier, foreign nationals visiting India needed OTP on a local number to buy Airtel, Jio, Vi SIM cards. By changing the rules, OTP can now be requested on an email address as well. After this change, foreign nationals will not need a local number to get a new SIM card. They will also be able to use their email to buy a SIM.
Apart from this, a new rule was also announced for the citizens of the country a few days ago. Now it has become mandatory for citizens to verify EKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) to buy a new SIM card. Without EKYC verification, users will not be able to buy a mobile number.
What is EKYC?
EKYC is a digital verification process in which the user’s identity and address can be verified electronically. SIM cards will not be issued without EKYC verification. The government has made EKYC mandatory to prevent cyber fraud and scams through SIM cards. Earlier, without EKYC, people used to buy SIM cards in someone else’s name and then misuse the number. This will not happen now after the introduction of EKYC.
