NSA Ajit Doval and his son Shaurya Doval
New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s son Shaurya Doval has shared his childhood story. He said that in childhood he never knew that his father was an IPS officer and he thought he was in the foreign service. BJP leader and founder of think tank India Foundation Shaurya Doval said during a conversation with PTI that he came to know about his father’s secret missions much later in his life.
Responding to a question, banker-turned-political thinker Shaurya Doval said, “In my childhood I did not even know that he was an IPS officer. I came back to India much later.” Shaurya Doval jokingly said that he once asked a colleague of his father about the lack of news about the activities of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) compared to Pakistan’s ISI. The reply highlighted the secretive nature of the work of the IB, “Since you do not hear anything about it, we are able to do it.”
To this day, I don’t know what he does: Shaurya
Shaurya Doval said, ‘Till date, I don’t know what he does, there is no culture of discussing work at home. But he asks me everything and probably he knows what I do.’ Shaurya Doval, who studied at Hindu College of Delhi University, has a joint MBA degree from London Business School and University of Chicago. He quit his job in investment banking and returned to India in 2009 to establish the India Foundation.
He said, ‘It was a good start in a country that did not have a culture of political ‘think tanks’. Business activities were not what I wanted in life, so this was my small attempt to do something for the country.’
Ajit Doval is a member of the 1968 IPS batch
Considered one of India’s super spies, Ajit Doval is currently serving his third term as the National Security Advisor (NSA), making him the first person to hold the post for more than one term.
A member of the 1968 IPS batch of Kerala cadre, Doval is also the first policeman to be awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. Doval’s career has included several intelligence successes, including infiltration operations against the Mizo National Army and important missions involving Myanmar and China. His contribution was significant during Operation Black Thunder. He also played a key role during the ‘Indian Airlines’ flight 814 hijacking incident. (Inputs: Also from Bhasha)
