Number of companies active in India crosses 1.62 lakhs in FY 2025

New Delhi . The number of active companies in the country in the country has been recorded more than 1,62,800 in the financial year 2025 ended March 31. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), new business registration has increased rapidly, with two -thirds of the service sector in the total new registration.
In the period of April 2024-February 2025, 1,41,675 companies were registered, leading to an increase of about Rs 3.36 lakh crore in paid-up capital. The industrial sector represented more than 82 percent of paid-up capital.
The period of April-February included a major investment in industrial sector such as manufacturing, textile, mining, metal and chemical.
Meanwhile, till 31 January, a total of 28,05,354 companies were registered in the country, out of which 65 percent (18,17,222) companies were active, which is 0.14 percent increase in the total ratio of active companies compared to December 2024.
As of 31 January, 5,216 foreign companies were also registered in the country and 63 percent of them or 3,281 institutions were active.
Private limited companies have 96 percent stake in total companies, which is 38 percent of total paid-up capital.
According to the ministry data, the number of public limited companies (4 percent) is less than the private limited companies, but 62 percent of the total paid-up capital.
Sector-wise classification shows that 27 percent of companies are in business service, which is the highest. After this, 20 percent of the companies are in manufacturing. In addition, there are 13 percent companies in Trading and Community, Personal and Social Service.
According to the Ministry’s statement, “It has also been observed that the total number of companies operating in the service sector saw the highest increase, followed by the industry sector and agricultural sector. In the service sector, the number of companies active in the community, individual and social service sector recorded the highest increase.”
State -wise data shows that Maharashtra is at the forefront of the total number of active companies, Delhi ranks second, followed by Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
