When is gestational diabetes detected?
Dr. Amrita Saha She says that obesity during pregnancy causes diabetes, which can be fatal for the health of both the mother and the child. However, it is not necessary that obesity is the cause of gestational diabetes. Initially, this disease is not easily detected, but, after 20 weeks or 5 months, a blood test reveals the increased blood sugar level. Therefore, it is necessary to get a gestational diabetes test done between 24 and 28 weeks.
Are these women at higher risk of diabetes during pregnancy?
Family History: According to the doctor, women who have a family history of diabetes or in other words, those whose mother, grandmother, father or brother has diabetes, such women have an increased chance of getting diabetes during pregnancy.
Increased body weight: According to a study, overweight women are at a higher risk of gestational diabetes. Dr. Saha says that women whose body mass index is above 30 also have an increased risk of gestational diabetes.
History of first pregnancy: If a woman has had gestational diabetes in her first pregnancy, then there is a risk of it developing in the second pregnancy as well.
During PCOD: Women who are suffering from PCOD or are struggling with any other hormonal problem, the possibility of getting diabetes during pregnancy increases.

For this, you can do yoga, meditation, etc. Doing this can reduce the risk of gestational diabetes. However, in any situation, doctor’s advice is necessary.
