VK Pandian
Bhubaneswar: A big news has come out from Odisha. VK Pandian, a close aide of BJD leader and former CM Naveen Patnaik, has announced his retirement from politics. He said, ‘I have decided to distance myself from active politics. If I have hurt anyone during this visit, I am sorry.’
Why did you take this decision?
VK Pandian has taken this decision after the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)’s humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Former bureaucrat Pandian said in a video message, ‘My intention of joining politics was only to help Naveen Babu and now I consciously decide to separate myself from active politics.’
VK Pandian said, ‘I am sorry if I had any role in the defeat of BJD in the election campaign. I apologize to the entire Biju family including all party workers for this.’
Let us tell you that Pandian was seen as a possible successor of Naveen Patnaik. Patnaik had strongly criticized him after the shocking defeat of BJD in the recently concluded elections. However, Patnaik reiterated on Saturday that Pandian is not his successor and the people of Odisha will decide who will be his successor.
Patnaik also said that the criticism of Pandian for the party’s defeat was unfortunate and added that Pandian did an excellent job. He (Pandian) is a loyal and honest person and should be remembered for that. He joined the party and did not hold any post. He did not contest from any constituency. When asked about my successor, I have always said clearly that it is not Pandian. I repeat that the people of Odisha will decide my successor.
