Kannur District Magistrate (District Election Officer) Arun K Vijayan, after taking information regarding the incident at Kalliassery Gram Panchayat, suspended the Special Polling Officer, Polling Assistant Micro Observer, Special Police Officer and Videographer. The District Magistrate has also recommended an investigation against Ganesan, accused of interfering in the voting process at the polling booth located at the house of 92-year-old Devi on April 18. Let us tell you that Kalliassery assembly constituency of Kannur district comes under Kasaragod Lok Sabha seat.
BJP and Congress made allegations
On this issue, Congress has alleged that Ganesan is a worker of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that it was an attempt to rig the elections. At the same time, the Left Party has not yet given any reaction on these allegations. In the same case, today the Election Commission has suspended 4 polling officials for failing to prevent outside interference during voting.
“When the voting process was taking place at Devi’s house, it was observed that the secrecy of the voting process was breached due to outside interference,” the notice said. Meanwhile, Kalliassery sub-polling officer informed the Kannapuram police station to take action against the person and polling officials working illegally.
The person seen in CCTV footage
According to the information, that person is seen interfering in the voting process in the CCTV footage broadcast on news channels. In the report submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, the District Magistrate said that Ganesan interfered in the voting process in violation of Section 128 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (Maintenance of secrecy of voting). Let us tell you that voting for 20 Lok Sabha seats of Kerala will be held in the second phase i.e. on 26th April.
