Lakshya Sen’s first win will not be counted

Paris Olympics 2024: India’s star badminton player Lakshya Sen won his first match in Paris Olympics 2024, but now it has come to light that it will not be counted. This has given a big blow to India. However, all this is being done as per the rules. The opponent whom Lakshya Sen has defeated has withdrawn his name from this tournament due to injury. Not only this, the men’s doubles group C match of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, which was to be played today, has also been canceled. There too, the opponents who were to play against these players have been out due to injury. Let us understand what this whole matter is and how it has shocked India’s hopes.

Victory over Kevin Corden will not count

India’s badminton player Lakshya Sen’s win over Kevin Cordon in the opening match of the men’s singles Group L at the Olympic Games will not be counted. This has been done because his opponent from Guatemala has been ruled out of the Paris Olympics due to a left elbow injury. The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has said in an update that Guatemalan men’s singles player Kevin Cordon has withdrawn from the badminton competition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to a left elbow injury. It said that his remaining Group L matches against Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie and Belgium’s Julien Caraggi will not be played. The matches of this group have been rescheduled. The world body of badminton has said that the matches in Group L were played with Cordon included, as per the BWF’s competition rules for the group stage. Therefore, the results of all played or yet to be played matches involving Cordon in Group L are now considered deleted.

Now only three players will remain in Group L

The withdrawal of Tokyo Olympics semi-finalist Cordon means that Group L will now have only three players, which includes Lakshya Sen, Christie and Caraggi. In this way, Lakshya will be the only player in this group who will play three matches. Lakshya Sen will now face Caraggi on Monday and Christie in his final group match on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the men’s doubles Group C match of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has been canceled after German player Mark Lamsfuss withdrew due to injury. The Indian pair was scheduled to play a match against the German pair of Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel on Monday. The BWF has said that German men’s doubles player Mark Lamsfuss has withdrawn from the badminton competition of the Paris Olympic Games due to a knee injury. It has been reported that the matches of Lamsfuss and his partner Marvin Seidel in Group C against India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and France’s Lucas Corvi and Ronan Labar (30 July 2024) will no longer be played. Satwik and Chirag started their campaign with a 21-17, 21-14 win over the French pair of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar on Saturday. The Indian pair will face Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto on Tuesday in their final match of the group. Due to the withdrawal of the German pair, the Indonesian pair’s win over Lamsfuss and Seidel on Saturday has been removed from the result.

India has won one bronze medal so far

Meanwhile, if we talk about India’s performance, it has been mixed so far. While some Indian players are entering the next round by winning their matches, some are also getting eliminated after losing. So far, India’s Manu Bhaker has opened the weight category by winning the bronze medal. Now some more medals are expected to come to India today. It remains to be seen how the Indian players manage to perform in the future.
