Tokyo, Aug 3 (IANS)| Indian women’s wrestler Sonam on Tuesday crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics after losing her first bout in the 62kg women’s freestyle category. In a round of 8 match on Mat B of Makuhari Messe Hall-A, Sonam faced Asian Championship silver medalist Bolortuya of Mongolia, which was won by Bolortuya.
Till the end the score was 2-2 but Bolortuya was declared the winner on the basis of two points together in the second period. Sonam had taken a 1-0 lead till the end of the first period. In the second period too, Sonam scored a point and took a 2-0 lead. Bolortuya, however, won the second period with two points at once. Despite the defeat, there was hope for a medal for Sonam as if Bolortuya had reached the final, Sonam would have got a chance to play repechage.Bolortuya, however, lost her next match in just 50 seconds, ending Sonam’s journey to the Tokyo Olympics.
