Srinagar. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday termed the Karnataka High Court’s decision to uphold the ban on entry of girls wearing hijab in government schools as “disappointing”. “Very disappointed with the Karnataka High Court ruling. No matter what you think about the hijab, it is not a cloth, it is about a woman’s right to dress how she wants to dress.”
Omar Abdullah said on Twitter, “The court has not upheld this fundamental right, it is ridiculous.”
Another former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said, “The decision of the Karnataka HC to uphold the hijab ban is extremely disappointing.”
“On one hand we talk of empowering women, yet we are depriving them of a simple right. It is not just related to religion, but freedom to choose.”
In a tweet, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said, “The Karnataka HC’s decision to uphold the hijab ban is extremely disappointing. On one hand we talk about empowering women, yet we are denying them the right to a simple alternative. It is not just about religion, but the freedom to choose.”
