New Delhi. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference Party leader Omar Abdullah will not contest the assembly elections. National Conference President and Omar’s father Farooq Abdullah made this announcement and said that I will contest the elections myself. He said that when Jammu and Kashmir gets the status of a full state, then I will leave the seat and then Omar will contest the elections from there. Farooq has raised questions on the transfer of officers and appealed to the Election Commission to take cognizance in this regard.

Now it has been decided that Omar Abdullah will not contest the elections, but will PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti try her luck in the elections? So far no statement has come from Mehbooba or her party in this regard. Let us tell you that when Article 370 was removed in Jammu and Kashmir, all the big leaders there were put under house arrest in view of the situation. After this, when the house arrest was lifted in 2019, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti had announced that they would not contest the assembly elections until Article 370 is reinstated. Although both of them tried their luck in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, but both the leaders had to face a crushing defeat.

On the other hand, the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah has reacted after the dates of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were announced. Amit Shah wrote on social media, I welcome the announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir today by the Election Commission. In the last 10 years, the Modi government, through a series of tireless efforts, has created a new era of peace, development and strengthening democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly elections will further strengthen the roots of democracy. This will open the doors to a new era of development for the region. I appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the elections and vote in large numbers to form a government that maintains peace and development and ensures a bright future for the youth.
