Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said that India is the most secular country in the world and it is a land of peace and harmony. Criticizing the students for refusing to wear the prescribed dress by educational institutions, he said if they cannot follow the rules here, they should leave the country.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Postgraduate Students Council of Mangalore University at Mangalagangotri campus on Wednesday evening. He said that India has offered religious freedom to all and it has accepted people of all religions. He said that India has a rich history and the Mughal kings were not a part of that history. He also made some critical remarks against the Mughal emperor Akbar.
Meanwhile, members of the Campus Front of India (CFI) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest against the university for inviting Bhat to the campus for the inauguration of the council. Leaders of both the organizations said that Bhat was known for giving provocative speeches.
University vice-chancellor Dr Yadapaditya said it was the PG student council that had decided to invite Bhat and the university could not oppose the students’ decision.
