Bengaluru: Rahul Gandhi has promised to transfer Rs 8500 to the accounts of women of the country. Now, in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections, thousands of women have rushed to the post office in the hope of getting money. Actually, a rumour had spread in Bangalore that some political parties would transfer Rs 8,000 to the post office accounts of women. Then what happened… Thousands of women reached the General Post Office of Bangalore early in the morning. They waited for hours to open their accounts. However, this has no connection with Rahul Gandhi’s promise of Rs 8500.
In fact, the post office employees were also stunned to see the number of women opening accounts in the post office. They too could not understand why such a huge crowd of women had gathered to open accounts. The situation reached such a point that the post office officials had to deploy additional staff to open accounts of women. Police help had to be taken to control the crowd of women. The surprising thing is that women started queuing up from 3 am to open accounts. Earlier 100-200 accounts were opened daily in this post office, but now 700 to 800 accounts are being opened every day.
Why did the women run?
According to the news of Times of India, the discussion among women was that the postal department was depositing money in every account opened under India Post Payment Bank. Women got a hint of this rumor from WhatsApp group. These rumors were going on WhatsApp group for the last few days and were viral in RWA groups. Through these, women got the news that the last date for registration is Monday. This is the reason why hundreds of women reached the General Post Office on Monday to open their accounts.
The postal department had to put up posters
The newspaper quoted sources in the postal department as saying that the women believed that to get Rs 8,000, they would first have to open an account. They believed that this program was already running and the postal department had started depositing Rs 8,000 in everyone’s account. Chief Post Master of the post office HM Manjesh said that they have also put up posters at the entry gates. These say that no such cash incentive program or initiative has been announced by the postal department. By noon on Monday alone, more than 2,000 women had reached the post office.
