New Delhi. The revival of mythological rivers has gained momentum in Uttar Pradesh. On the call of Yogi government, experiments are being done to give new life to rivers in different districts. In this episode, efforts are being made to return the Malan river that has disappeared in Bijnor to its original form with the help of the district administration and public cooperation. In Kalidasa’s Abhigyan Shakuntalam, there is a mention of the Malini river, which is currently known by the people as Malan river. This river, one of the tributaries of the Ganges, used to flow continuously along its entire extension, but due to encroachment, this river had ceased to exist. It was confined to a small stream and people started growing crops on its land.
The district administration of Bijnor has started efforts to return the Malan river to its old form, fulfilling the intention of CM Yogi Adityanath to revive the rivers. Public cooperation is also being taken in this. The work of widening the river by digging it is also going on in full swing. The embankments of Malan are being constructed by removing the encroachments. This work is being done in the presence of village heads. People living near the river are doing shramdaan in this holy work. The origin of Malan river is believed to be from the Chanda hills of Pauri district.
Malan enters Bijnor from Haldukhata. After traveling 53 km in the district, Malan meets the Ganges near the Kanva Ashram located in Ravali. In Yogi 2.0, the campaign to make rivers uninterrupted and clean is going on in the entire state. Many social organizations engaged in this work are making effective efforts. Along with making people aware about the importance of rivers, they are motivating them to do Shramdaan to give new life to the rivers. It is worth mentioning that like Malan river of Bijnor, social organizations are involved in the work of giving new life to 19 rivers out of 22 tributaries of Gomti river of the state. Through public cooperation, people are being made aware to revive these rivers.
