New Delhi. The date was December 2… year 2023… when Nupur J Sharma, editor-in-chief of the news website Op India, had interviewed Hassan Yusuf, son of Hamas Sheikh Hassan Yusuf, the founder of Hamas organization, in which Nupur asked questions on various issues. When the process of interview started, the matter reached Sufi saints, then Nupur immediately asked Hasan Yusuf questions about Sufi saints. On which Hasan Yusuf recited ballads in praise of his Sufi saints. Hasan said that Sufi is the most peaceful, most spiritual branch of Islam, to which Nupur countered and said that for a Hindu your statement is completely hollow. Nupur further said that it is not easy for any Hindu to digest this statement of yours, because keeping in mind the way Sufi saints have looted the honor of Hindu sisters and daughters, this statement of yours is not easy for any Hindu. I don’t think it will be easy to digest? Nupur also mentioned Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer Dargah in her interview.
At the same time, after this interview, Op-India Editor-in-Chief Nupur J Sharma started receiving death threats, which has now been condemned by the Sufi Islamic Board and has also made it clear that we are against organizations like PFI. Were and always will be. Apart from this, regarding the threats Nupur Sharma is receiving, we are with her in every situation and want this entire matter to be put to an end here.
Talking about this interview, after Nupur’s statement came into discussion, Sufi Raj Jain, head of Sarva Dharma Khwaja Mandir Sufi Islamic Board, issued a statement saying that every person in this country is given freedom of expression under the Constitution. Under which he can give a statement on any issue, but the kind of statement that Nupur J Sharma has given during the recent interview in the context of Sufi saints, I think that he should be allowed to discuss this topic in detail. One should sit on the table of discussion in front. Apart from this, they should also come to the Dargah, so that the entire situation becomes clear to them.
At the same time, Mansoor Khan had received a call from Delhi Police, in which it was said that if he wants, he can take legal action against Nupur. They have complete freedom for this. But Mansoor Khan had made it clear to the police that we consider it appropriate to put an end to the matter and not give it too much importance by taking any such legal action. He further said that it has come to our notice that there is no mention of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in this viral video. This part was removed before the video went viral.
He said that although every person has the right to give his opinion on any issue under the freedom of expression in this country, but the way Nupur J Sharma has been recently threatened to kill, we condemn it. We do. When our Sufi organization was receiving threats from organizations like PFI and Al Masari, at that time only Nupur J Sharma and her organization stood with us. We are aware that Nupur J Sharma remains serious and sensitive towards protecting Hindus and Indians from extremist organizations. Nupur has helped us on many occasions by campaigning against PFI, for which we express our gratitude to her and want to put an end to this matter without giving too much importance to it.
It is well known that after the above statement, Nupur J Sharma was embroiled in controversies. He started receiving death threats from many Muslim organizations. He was asked to hand himself over to the police. At the same time, when Nupur J Sharma got embroiled in controversy regarding her above mentioned comment, she made it clear in her clarification that during the interview, she was referring to the Ajmer Dargah rape scandal of 1992. It should be noted that this video of Nupur J Sharma came into headlines when the student studying in NIT, Srinagar was dismissed.
