New Delhi. Does Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal want to set a new standard of morality by not resigning from his post? This is the topic of discussion among the general public. However, it is not surprising that representatives elected by the public go to jail. Corruption is rampant in Indian democracy and public representatives keep going to jail. Many honorable people even consider it a matter of pride. But there are very few examples of running a government from jail in Indian politics.
What will happen to those promises with which Arvind Kejriwal had shown the path of ‘clean’ politics? India Against Corruption was born with a firm resolve to eliminate corruption. From where the hope of an alternative politics was raised across the country. The public outcry under the leadership of Anna Hazare in 2011-12 was not an ordinary phenomenon. In the heat of the fire emanating from this movement, Sheila Dikshit’s government was burnt to ashes. Not only this, this movement did not even give the UPA-2 government full of corrupt ministers a chance to recover. The center went out of the hands of Congress. Went to Delhi from the hands of Congress. Over time, the command of Punjab also went out of the hands of Congress.
One by one the ministers arrived
Aam Aadmi Party came to power with a wind of change. But one by one the faces of those who brought “change” started becoming tarnished. It was propagated that Aam Aadmi Party leaders cannot be corrupt. But one by one the ministers got trapped. Strong leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were not granted bail for last one year. Manish changed the face of government schools. Ballads were also read in foreign newspapers praising the government schools of Delhi. I remembered, your former minister Satyendra Jain is now old in jail, he is not even discussed anymore.
Is Arvind Kejriwal going to jail the end of alternative politics?
Manish and Sanjay Singh got into trouble in the liquor case, but Arvind Kejriwal going to jail in the same liquor scam proved to be an incident that pushed back the thinking of alternative politics for decades. Alternative politics meant that politics which talked about political alternative without BJP and Congress. By keeping these promises in front, Aam Aadmi Party got an unexpected victory in Punjab. Here too the public almost rejected the established parties, Congress, Akali Dal and BJP. But before the Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal abandoned his own thinking by joining hands with Congress.
What is the option before Kejriwal?
Now the real question is what Kejriwal will do next. Will the heat of liquor scam be reduced just by blaming the central agencies? At present it does not seem so. The Enforcement Directorate gave Kejriwal ample opportunity to appear before the law. Kejriwal kept taking the allegations lightly. When ED reached the High Court with evidence, Kejriwal’s arguments fell flat. Kejriwal himself withdrew the bail petition from the Supreme Court. Being inside the jail, Kejriwal also knows this. The government cannot be run for long. Narendra Modi’s government is at the center but the opposition looks weaker than before. The opposition alliance formed in the name of ‘India’ has disintegrated. There is little hope that everyone will gather in the name of Kejriwal. Kejriwal has not given a chance to the second class leaders below him to develop, in such a situation they will be forced to hand over power to some of their ‘own’.
INDIA will form alliance against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, there will be a show of strength at Ramlila Maidan on March 31
Public representatives should stay safe now
MPs, MLAs and ministers should now be afraid because doing corruption while in power is no longer free from danger. The provisions of the PMLA Act are such that it becomes almost impossible for public representatives to get bail. It has become an established tradition for state governments to collect election funds by selling liquor and taking commission from liquor traders. Kejriwal’s political guru Anna Hazare had also warned Kejriwal about the liquor trade, but Kejriwal, full of ambition, had long ago stopped listening to his well-wishers. Some people like liquor business, most of them get ruined in it.
