New Delhi. If you buy supplements or syrups in the name of health drinks, then this news is for you also. Modi government has given a big blow to the companies selling products as health drinks. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Modi government has issued orders to all e-commerce companies. Under this, now e-commerce companies will not be able to sell Bournvita and all similar beverages as health drinks. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an order in this regard. In the order issued on April 10, the ministry has told e-commerce sites about this.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has taken this step after the findings of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). NCPCR had said in its conclusion that no definition of health drinks has been given under the Food Safety Standards Act 2006. Earlier, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had asked all e-commerce companies not to sell products made from grains, malt and dairy as health or energy drinks. No drink has been described as healthy in the Food Law. Also, carbonated or non-carbonated drinks are considered to be flavored water based.
FSSAI had told e-commerce sites that they cannot mislead consumers by using words like health drinks. FSSAI had said that there is no such thing as health drinks. The latest decision of the government may cause a big blow to the companies manufacturing beverages or supplements sold as health drinks. For a long time, Bournvita and other similar products have been sold as essential for the health of children. Now e-commerce companies will have to sell all such products in some other category. Now it remains to be seen in which category the e-commerce companies sell these beverages including Bournvita.
