Pakistan Violent Clash
Peshawar: The tribes involved in violent clashes in Pakistan’s troubled northwestern Kurram district have signed a peace agreement, after which the violence has stopped. A senior official has given information about this. 50 people have died and more than 225 people have been injured in the violent clashes that have been going on for about a week. The official said that the peace agreement was signed on Thursday after the intervention of Jirga (local panchayat) leaders.
A penalty will be imposed for violating the agreement
Deputy Commissioner Javed Ullah Mehsud said clashes have stopped in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan following the peace deal. Officials said the peace deal was reached in two separate jirga meetings held between warring Shia and Sunni factions in Kurram district. Prominent people from both sides signed the agreement. Under the agreement, both tribes have agreed to cooperate with the government in maintaining public order. According to the agreement, any party violating the peace deal will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 12 crore.

Violent clashes increased in many areas
According to police and district administration, the conflict between Sunni and Shia tribes in Kurram district started a week ago. During this period, violent clashes between tribes and religious groups took place as well as several communal clashes and terrorist attacks. Clashes between Boshehra and Malikhel tribes intensified which later took a communal turn. After this, the violence spread to many other areas including Peever, Tangi, Balishkhel, Khar Kalay, Maqbal, Kunj Alizai, Para Chamkani and Karman. The authorities, with the help of tribal elders, military leadership, police and district administration, brokered a compromise between the Shia and Sunni tribes to end the violent conflict which was taking a dangerous turn.
