Islamabad: Inflation is at its peak in Pakistan and the common people are in distress. Pakistan is currently surrounded by serious economic challenges. The situation is such that the ever-increasing inflation has broken the back of the common people. Pakistan, which is facing economic crisis, is probably now realizing the importance of its trade relations with India. Recently, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari had urged all political parties to put aside differences to deal with the existing problems. Now in this sequence, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan has gone one step further and wants to restore trade relations with India.
What did the Foreign Minister of Pakistan say?
Pakistan Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has said that his country is ‘seriously’ considering restoring trade relations with India. His statement is being considered an indication of a possible change in diplomatic stance with the neighboring country. Pakistan’s trade relations with India are suspended since August, 2019. Dar made the remarks during a press conference in London after attending the Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels, Geo News reported. He indicated that the business community of his country, which is facing cash crunch, is keen to resume trade activities with India. The Foreign Minister said, “Pakistani businessmen want trade with India to resume.” He said that we will consider resuming trade relations with India.
India’s stand is clear
“We will look seriously at trade matters with India,” the ‘Express Tribune’ newspaper quoted Dar as saying. His comments indicate a possible change in the diplomatic stance towards India. Pakistan had significantly reduced its diplomatic activities with India after the Indian government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two union territories. However, Pakistan has been continuously saying that the responsibility of improving relations between the two countries lies on India. Pakistan said that as a pre-condition for starting talks with India, it (India) would have to withdraw its ‘unilateral’ steps in Kashmir. India, however, has rejected this suggestion and made it clear to Pakistan that the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is an integral part of the country. Language
