Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Lahore: The Pakistan government has made a big offer to jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan for the first time. The ruling Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) alliance has called upon Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to give up its protests on the streets and have a ‘meaningful’ dialogue with the government. This information came out in a news on Monday. According to the news of ‘The Express Tribune’, Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed the government’s stand of being ready for talks and said that Imran’s party should decide with whom it wants to talk.
Talking to media persons in Lahore, Gilani reiterated the government’s willingness to hold talks. However, the former prime minister said it seemed that Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was intending to talk to someone else. Gilani (71), a senior PPP leader, said the country was currently facing instability and therefore all leaders would have to come together. The paper quoted Gilani as saying that during the time of the PTI-led government, even while being in the opposition, he was willing to hold talks while the PTI was not willing to do so.
The government said the doors for dialogue are open
Gilani, while answering another question, said that the PPP is committed to support the incumbent government. “The PPP has never indicated that it is not part of the government. We are with the government in all matters,” he said. The former prime minister said that discussions were going on within the party regarding inclusion of people in the cabinet at the Centre and Punjab province. Meanwhile, Planning Minister Iqbal said that the doors of the government were open for all for meaningful dialogue. Iqbal said that the PTI was the ruling party in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and they should serve the people there. (Language)
