According to the report of the Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune, the government of Pakistan has not started the long-term oil deal initiative with Russia. Elections are to be held in Pakistan this year itself and the government has very little time left. The newspaper quoted sources as saying that Pakistan, passing through a pauper’s condition, wanted an oil transportation deal with Russia for a long time with huge discounts. At the same time, Russia was not ready for a long-term oil deal with Pakistan at a cheaper rate.
Pakistan wanted to bring India’s friend Russia in its fold
A source said, “Both the sides stuck to their respective positions, giving the impression that no settlement is going to happen for a long time.” In fact, the cost of transporting oil from Russia to Pakistan is very high. Shahbaz government was insisting on cheap oil as well as transportation deal. Pakistan is demanding this when Russia is now giving India a discount of only $ 4 per barrel of oil. In a way, Russia is now withdrawing from the exemption on oil, while the Pakistan government wanted to take double advantage. Russia was not ready for this.
Giving the example of India, Russia clearly told Pakistan that no permanent discount can be given on oil. Pakistan recently bought 1 lakh barrels of oil from Russia. Pakistan has been able to refile only 50,000 tonnes of oil so far. Pakistan was seeing through this Russian oil whether it benefits or not. Imran Khan had claimed that he would have brought down oil prices in the country by buying oil from Russia like India. However, now that oil has arrived, it does not seem possible to do so. Only 32 percent of high speed diesel is coming out of Russian oil, which has become a huge loss deal for Pakistan. Pakistan wanted to bring India’s friend Russia in its fold by buying oil, but its dream does not seem to be coming true.
