Chennai: No matter how much enmity there is between India and Pakistan, when needed, India supports its neighbor and also provides new life. Something similar happened with Pakistani girl Ayesha. Doctors not only gave a new life to Ayesha who crossed the border to India but also treated her for free. Nineteen-year-old Ayesha Rashan was suffering from heart disease for the last several years.
Treatment done at MGM Healthcare Hospital
Ayesha’s family sought consultation from Dr KR Balakrishnan, director of the Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant and co-director Dr Suresh Rao at MGM Healthcare Hospital, Chennai. The medical team advised that a heart transplant was necessary because Ayesha’s heart pump had developed a leak. He was put on extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Delhi’s brain dead patient’s heart transplanted to Ayesha
Doctors at MGM Healthcare transplanted the heart of a 69-year-old dead patient brought from a Delhi hospital into Ayesha. This surgery of Ayesha was done absolutely free. In fact, the patient’s family expressed their inability to afford about Rs 35 lakh for heart transplant. He said that his financial condition was not good. The medical team then connected the family to Aishwaryaam Trust which provided financial assistance. Ayesha stayed in India for 18 months.

Ayesha’s mother Sanobar said that when she reached India, Ayesha was barely alive, her chances of survival were only 10 percent. I “Frankly speaking, there are no good medical facilities in Pakistan compared to India. I think India is very friendly. When doctors in Pakistan said that there are no transplant facilities available we contacted Dr. KR Balakrishnan I thank India and the doctors.
Ayesha became a fan of India and doctors
Ayesha and her mother Sanobar especially thanked the Indian doctors and the Government of India. Sanobar said that the doctors assured me of all possible help. The team of doctors made arrangements for their stay and money in India. I am very happy with the transplant, I am also happy that an Indian heart is beating inside a Pakistani girl. I thought it was never possible but it happened. Mother said that Ayesha is full of new hope and she is dreaming of becoming a fashion designer.
