Edible oil prices: Due to increase in festive demand amidst low supply of edible oils in the country, there was a rise in the prices of all oils and oilseeds in the oil and oilseeds markets on Saturday. Amidst the situation of low supply of imported oils, the prices of mustard, groundnut and soybean oil-oilseeds, crude palm oil (CPO) and palmolein and cottonseed oil closed on a strong note. Sources knowledgeable about the market said that the reason for short supply is that palm and palmolein oil are costlier than sunflower. Due to this expensive price, the import of palm and palmolein has been affected, which accounts for about 65 percent of the total oil import and people from lower income groups use this oil more.
Pressure on soft oil prices
Only when palm and palmolein will become cheaper than sunflower, its import will increase and the supply line will be improved. It is almost impossible to fulfill the deficiency of approximately 65 percent palm and palmolein with any soft oil. Due to increase in prices of palm and palmolein, pressure on soft oil prices has also increased. Due to this, the prices of all oils and oilseeds are becoming stronger. He said that compared to yesterday, the arrival of mustard on Saturday reduced to six and a half lakh bags. The action of Haryana Government in the matter of purchasing this mustard can be called commendable. Amid sporadic arrivals, the state government has started purchasing mustard from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 5,650 per quintal. Due to this, local oil mills are also running and by distributing mustard edible oil through ration shops after crushing, mustard oil will be available to the consumers at cheap prices. He said that it is expected that government procurement on MSP will start in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh also.
