In the LMC of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, the government has banned Panipuri. Cholera bacteria have been claimed to be found in the water of Pani Puri in Kathmandu and cholera disease is spreading in the city. The Health Ministry of Nepal has decided to ban Pani Puri with immediate effect. Pani puri was completely banned in Kathmandu immediately after the alert from the Health Ministry of Nepal.
Cholera cases have increased in the capital city of Kathmandu’s Lalitpur metropolis, in which 12 people have been found positive. The authorities have banned the sale of pani puri. Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) claimed that water carrying cholera bacteria is being used in Pani Puri.
City police chief Sitaram Hachettu told that internal preparations have been made to stop the sale of panipuri in the congested areas and corridor area in the city, adding that the risk of cholera spreading in the city has increased. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the total number of cholera patients in Kathmandu Valley has reached 12.
According to Chumanlal Das, Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health, five cases of cholera have been confirmed in Kathmandu metropolis and one each in Chandragiri Municipality and Budhanilkantha Municipality. The ministry has requested everyone to be alert as diarrhoea, cholera and other waterborne diseases spread especially during the summer and rainy season.
Treatment of the infected is going on at Sukarraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital, Teku. Earlier, five cases of cholera were found in different parts of the capital. Two of the infected have already been treated and discharged. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged people to immediately go to their nearest health center and get tested if they experience any symptoms of cholera.
