Amit Panghal’s spectacular win
Panghal defeated Liu 5-0 in a tough match to qualify for the Olympics for the second time. He is the fifth boxer from India to make it to the Olympics. Before him, Nishant Dev (71 kg), Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) have qualified for the Olympics. Panghal got only this one chance to make it to the Paris Olympics and the Asian Games 2018 champion took full advantage of this opportunity. Amit Panghal is a big contender for the medal
The biggest competition Panghal participated in after the Tokyo Olympics was the 2022 Commonwealth Games in which he won the gold medal. In the quarterfinal match against Liu, both boxers initially tried to test each other. At one point the Indian boxer was seen struggling. Panghal changed his strategy after trailing 1-4 and adopted an aggressive attitude from the start in the second round. The Chinese boxer also tried to make a comeback but Panghal kept showering punches, due to which the decision of all five judges went in his favor. Liu changed his strategy in the last three minutes and came closer to Panghal but the Indian boxer did not give him any chance and eventually won. Two other Indian boxers Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg) and Sachin Siwach (57 kg) are also in the race to get the Olympic quota.
