New Delhi. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are set to begin on July 24, the third time the French capital is going to host the prestigious event. Paris previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1900 and 1924. With the grand opening ceremony scheduled for July 26, the excitement has already begun with some events starting today. Two major matches will kick off the Olympic programme on July 24: football and rugby sevens. In football, Group B and Group C matches will be held. Group B will see Copa America 2024 champions Argentina take on Morocco, while Group C will see Euro 2024 winners Spain take on Uzbekistan. Both matches are scheduled to start at 6:30 PM IST. In rugby sevens, Pool B matches will also grab the attention of spectators. According to the Olympics website, Australia will take on Samoa and New Zealand will take on South Africa on July 25 at 1 am IST.

25 Indian archery team in action on July
The action continues on July 25, with the Indian archery team making its Olympic debut. Archery and handball events will also begin alongside football and rugby sevens. Archery will have both women’s and men’s individual ranking rounds. India is represented by Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur in the women’s category. Ramesh Pravin Jadhav, Tarundeep Rai and Dheeraj Bommaraj will compete in the men’s individual ranking round.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was historic for India
India’s performance at this first Tokyo 2020 Olympics was historic and memorable, it was the country’s best ever. India secured a total of seven medals, including one gold, two silver and four bronze. Neeraj Chopra created history by winning India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics in javelin throw. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya performed exceptionally well to win silver medals. Bronze medals were won by PV Sindhu in badminton, Lovlina Borgohain in boxing, Bajrang Punia in wrestling and the men’s hockey team, which ended a 41-year medal drought by finishing third. This impressive performance put India at 48th place in the overall medal tally, reflecting the country’s growing strength in various sporting disciplines.
