Getting a passport is going to be easier now. For this, the Ministry of External Affairs is working with the police of the states and union territories on a solution so that people can get passports within a few days. On the occasion of Passport Seva Diwas on Monday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that for better passport service, the ministry has established 440 post office passport service centers. Apart from this, there are 93 passport service centers. At present, there are 533 passport processing centers and 37 regional passport offices in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs has also linked 187 Indian missions abroad to this.
Actually, the biggest problem in getting a passport is police verification. It takes a lot of time. Many times, applicants are harassed in the name of police verification. In such a situation, the Ministry of External Affairs is trying to solve this problem.
S. Jaishankar said that ‘MPassport Police App’ has been introduced to speed up police verification. 9 thousand police stations of 25 states and union territories have been linked to it. Along with this, the passport service system has been linked to DG Locker for paperless documentation. This will make the work of police verification easier.
He further said that the Ministry of External Affairs provided 1.65 crore passport related services last year in 2023. Monthly passport applications crossed 14 lakh in 2023. He further said that passport contributes significantly to the development of citizens. This directly affects the development of the country.
