Jaipur. Consumers of Rajasthan are already buying the most expensive electricity in the country. Now once again the electricity rates will increase further in Rajasthan. Rajasthan’s Minister of State for Energy Hiralal Nagar has indicated this today. Nagar said that due to the mismanagement of the previous Congress government, the cost of electricity production has increased. Its burden will also fall on the common consumer. Nagar said that but not the current BJP government but the previous Congress is completely responsible for this.
The Energy Minister said that power companies have fixed and variable costs. The previous Congress government had bought expensive and imported coal. This increased the variable cost of the production corporation. At the same time, we have to return the electricity that the Gehlot government had borrowed from banking during the Rabi crop season by buying it at expensive prices. This has also increased the cost of power companies.
Recently, the discount on fuel surcharge was cut
Energy Minister Nagar said that if the cost increases, we will have to file a petition in the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission as per the rules. Whatever decision it takes, we will have to follow it. This step of the government has created the possibility of electricity rates increasing once again in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government had recently abolished the discount on fuel surcharge.
The loss of power companies has reached close to 1.5 lakh crores
At present, the loss of electricity companies in Rajasthan has reached close to 1.5 lakh crores. The discount given on electricity consumption in the state since the time of the previous government is still in force. At present, the bills of more than 69.88 lakh domestic consumers in the state are coming zero. Because domestic consumers are being given free electricity up to 100 to 200 units in two categories. The bills of about 10.09 lakh agricultural consumers are also coming zero. Because they are being given 2000 units of electricity free every month. But gradually the situation has started changing.
