Patole told reporters that even though an FIR has been registered against senior police officer Rashmi Shukla in this case, it is necessary to get to the bottom of it. He further said that as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the permission of the Home Secretary is necessary to tap anyone’s phone. During this, Patole said that the role of former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was also handling the Home Department at that time, should be probed in the phone tapping case. Patole accused Fadnavis of being involved in the matter. He also appealed to the Maharashtra government to expedite the investigation of the case to find out the real mastermind of the illegal phone tapping case and bring the culprits to justice.
It is worth mentioning that Rashmi Shukla is currently on deputation at the Centre. She is currently the Additional Director General of CRPF Hyderabad. She has previously been the Police Commissioner of Pune. A case has been registered against Rashmi Shukla at the Bandh Garden police station. He has been charged with illegal phone tapping. Section 26 of the Indian Telegraph Act has been imposed on him. She is the second IPS after former Mumbai Police Chief Parambir Singh to have been booked.
