With the formation of the unit, children up to 12 years of age will get the facility of treatment with state-of-the-art machines in emergency. The work of PICU (Intensive Care Unit) is almost complete in Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Government Hospital premises. The work of construction of the unit in the government hospital premises was started from August 2022. On which about Rs 1 crore 20 lakh will be spent. The unit will have two large halls, rooms for doctors and other facilities. The facility of the unit is expected to be available from the new year. Apart from this, the vacant land in front of the unit has also been leveled and given a beautiful look. So that the patients and their families coming here can get a better atmosphere and pure environment.

These state-of-the-art machines will help in treatment
According to doctors, in this unit, temperature can be maintained in ultramodern machines in case of pneumonia, shock, dehydration or any emergency of children up to 12 years of age. This intensive care unit will have ultramodern machines used in the treatment of children including suction machine, oxygen machine, pulse-heart meter, central oxygen supply, monitor, BP-sugar machine for children. Currently, there will be a unit with a capacity of 12 beds. It can be increased in future. In future, this unit is also expected to get mini ventilators. It is being told that the capacity of this building has been made for more than 20 beds, so that in future the number of beds can be increased as per the need.

There was no PICU in the hospital
Contractor Prashant Agarwal told Local 18 that such PICUs are only available in private hospitals in big cities. Although this unit is also operational in the district hospital, there is no time to refer children when their condition worsens. After the PICU is ready in Itarsi government hospital, children between 1 month and 12 years will be admitted here. This unit will directly reduce infant mortality rate. The construction of the Intensive Care Unit building has been completed. The work of covering the drain is underway. The work will be completed in the next few days.

emergency medical treatment will be available
Superintendent of Government Hospital Itarsi, Dr. RK Chaudhary said that the gift of a life saving unit for children will be received. After the building is constructed, an intensive care unit will be established in the campus soon. In this unit, children from one month to 12 years of age will be treated with modern facilities in critical condition. Till now, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNCU) is being operated here. In which only children of one month of age can be kept. An intensive care unit is being built with about Rs 1.25 crore. The unit will provide better treatment to children in a modern way. The facility will be available after the building is handed over.
