A PIL has been filed by India Against Corruption President Hemant Patil, seeking registration of an FIR against Raj Thackeray for warning him to remove loudspeakers from mosques.
In fact, Raj Thackeray had recently issued a warning that loudspeakers should be removed from all mosques in the state and if this is not done, then his workers will go in front of the mosques and recite Hanuman Chalisa in double the voice of ‘Azaan’.
Patil said that on May 1, Raj Thackeray had warned that his workers would recite Hanuman Chalisa if loudspeakers were not removed from all mosques by May 4, for which he was later booked by the Aurangabad police.
He also accused the MNS chief of trying to disturb the peace by accusing Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar of being “anti-Hindu” and resorting to caste politics.
The IAC chief said that while the Aurangabad police have booked Raj under mild sections and the police have not charged him with sedition for making provocative statements that can hinder peace and harmony between communities.
Accordingly, Patil sought appropriate directions from the Bombay High Court to order an inquiry and register an FIR for charges of public nuisance, breach of peace and sedition in the larger public interest.
He has also urged the court to restrain Raj Thackeray from holding media conferences, visiting various places to campaign for the removal of loudspeakers of the mosque and retaliated by playing Hanuman Chalisa there.
