NairobiFormer India all-rounder Dodda Ganesh has been appointed the head coach of Kenya’s men’s cricket team ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers. Ganesh, 51, who played four Tests and ODIs for India, scored over 2000 runs and took 365 wickets for Karnataka in first-class cricket. He has the tough challenge of bringing back the glory days of Kenyan cricket when the team participated in five World Cups between 1996 and 2011.

The best performance of this Associate Member of International Cricket Council (ICC) country so far was in 2003 when they reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup held in South Africa under the presence of an Indian head coach in the form of Sandeep Patil. Kenya has qualified for only one T20 World Cup tournament, which was held in 2007.

Since then, Kenyan cricket’s graph has been on a continuous decline. They will face Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark and Jersey in the ICC Division Two Challenge League in September and will play the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in October. Ganesh said that he is looking forward to the new role. The former Indian cricketer posted on ‘X’, “It is an honor for me to be made the head coach of the Kenya cricket team.” In a video shared by the media here, Ganesh can be seen talking to senior officials of Kenya Cricket. Former Kenya internationals Lamek Onyango and Joseph Angara will be Ganesh’s assistant coaches.
