New Delhi. ET’s noose is tightening around Trinamool Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale. Gokhale is accused of collecting money from people through ‘crowd funding’, asking for help and using this money to pay his credit card bills. Let us tell you that donations are taken from people through crowd funding. Anti-money laundering criminal charges have been framed against him.

A huge amount of money was collected through crowdfunding which he used for his personal expenses like intraday trading in stocks, paying his credit card bills, ordering food from Paytm, Swiggy, Zomato, shopping, cryptocurrency trading and many more.

Collected money by taking donations, then squandered the money?
Giving this information, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said that the money laundering case against Gokhale has been registered after an FIR was lodged with the Gujarat Police. In this FIR, there is a mention of alleged misuse of money collected as donations from people. According to the central agency ED, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Ahmedabad (Rural) and Special PMLA Court, Ahmedabad on Tuesday framed criminal charges against Saket Gokhale under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

Who is Saket Gokhale…
TMC MP Gokhale is the national spokesperson of the party who joined the party in August 2021. According to NBT, Gokhale, who describes himself as an RTI activist and social worker, has so far filed RTIs in many cases like Pegasus spyware, bank loans and tukde-tukde gang. He was earlier associated with the Congress but had resigned from the Congress in 2019.

Gokhale was also arrested in 2022…
However, a chargesheet was filed against 31-year-old Gokhale under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) last year, although Gokhale denied misusing the donation money. The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December 2022 in connection with the alleged misuse of funds collected through donations from people.
