Pakistani National Asif Raza Merchant
New York: A 46-year-old Pakistani citizen with close ties to Iran was charged on Tuesday with conspiring to murder a politician or US government officials on US soil, officials said. Asif Raza Merchant was accused in a complaint filed in federal court in Brooklyn of conspiring to murder a politician or US government officials on US soil. Asif is accused of conspiring to commit murder for money. Law enforcement agencies foiled the accused’s plot before any attack could take place.

Was preparing to leave America
Officials said Merchant was arrested on July 12 when he was preparing to leave the US. Shortly before this, he met the alleged killers, who were actually undercover agents of US intelligence agencies. Prosecutors say Merchant was looking for a shooter to commit the murder. Along with this, a woman who could do a recce and about 25 people were needed who could protest to divert attention after the murder. Asif Raza is currently in the custody of a federal court in New York. Merchant arrived in the US from Pakistan in April 2024 after spending time in Iran.
Donald Trump was attacked
The FBI has revealed this entire case at a time when recently a young man shot former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. Trump survived this attack. The bullet passed by touching the former president’s ear. Secret Service officials immediately killed the attacker. According to an official, investigators have not found any evidence that Merchant had any connection with the shooting in Pennsylvania.
