On this occasion, PM Modi presented him a statue of Maharana Pratap’s horse ‘Chetak’, which reminds him of the bravery and history of Mewar. PM Modi said that Chetak was not just a horse but Maharana Pratap’s most trusted companion. Chetak saved Pratap’s life despite being injured in the battlefield. The story of this Kathiawadi breed horse purchased from Bhimora village in Gujarat still resonates in folk songs on the land of Rajasthan.
Haldighati’s brave warrior
Chetak’s bravery became immortal in history in the Haldighati war of 1576. Despite being seriously injured during the war, he crossed the 25 -foot -wide canal and brought Maharana Pratap to a safe place. Finally Chetak gave up his life, but he was successful in saving Pratap’s life.
Chetak’s tomb in Rajsamand
His tomb in honor of his bravery is still located in the Haldighati area of Rajsamand district. It is believed that Maharana Pratap and his brother Shakti Singh cremated him. This place is still a center of faith for tourists and history lovers.
