Modi said he was happy that his first visit to Italy for the G7 summit after being elected as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term was to Italy. “The discussions in the Outreach session will focus on artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean region,” Modi said. “This will be an opportunity to bring greater synergy between the outcomes of the G20 summit chaired by India and the upcoming G7 summit and to deliberate on issues important for the Global South,” he said.
PM Modi will have a bilateral meeting with Georgia Meloni
PM Modi will also hold a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Meloni on the sidelines of the G-7 meeting. The Prime Minister said, “Prime Minister Meloni’s two visits to India last year played an important role in giving momentum and depth to our bilateral agenda.” He said, “We are committed to strengthening the India-Italy strategic partnership and increasing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and Mediterranean regions.” The Prime Minister is likely to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. He said, “I am also looking forward to meeting other leaders participating in the summit.” The G7 includes the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan. Italy is currently chairing and hosting the G7 (Group of Seven Countries) summit.
Russia-Ukraine war will be discussed
Italy has emphasized on protecting the rules-based international system in this meeting being held under its presidency. According to Italy, Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine has weakened its principles and has led to increasing instability with many crises around the world. It says that the G7 will give equal importance to the conflict in the Middle East and its consequences for the global agenda. It expanded as the G8 between 1997 and 2013 with the inclusion of Russia in this group. However, Russia’s participation was suspended in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea. In line with the tradition of the group, representatives of many countries and international organizations are invited to the summit by the presiding host nation. (Language)
