New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday strongly condemned the firing of his Slovakian counterpart Robert Fico. During this he wished for his speedy recovery. Modi said that India stands in solidarity with the people of Slovakia in this hour. Slovakian officials said several bullets were fired at Prime Minister Fico as he greeted people outside a cultural center in the city of Handlova on Wednesday. Fico (59) is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.
PM Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “Deeply shocked by the news of firing on Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. I strongly condemn this cowardly and brutal act and wish Prime Minister Fico a speedy recovery. India stands in solidarity with the people of Slovakia.
Fico is now out of danger
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico is no longer in danger. A minister in Fico’s cabinet claimed his life was now out of danger. On Wednesday 15 May, he was shot in an assassination attempt while leaving a government meeting. The attacker reportedly shot 59-year-old Fico five times, leaving the prime minister initially in critical condition and undergoing surgery a few hours later on Wednesday evening. After this the condition is improving.
Tomas Taraba, Slovakia’s deputy prime minister and environment minister, said, “I was very surprised… Fortunately as far as I know the operation went well – and I think in the end he will survive… He is currently Taraba said one bullet hit Fico in the stomach and another in his joint, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, Defense Minister Robert Kalink told a news briefing a few hours ago. Had suffered a “severe stroke”.
