Before the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an exclusive interview to the country’s largest news network ‘Network18’ and candidly answered the questions asked on the politics of Maharashtra and the performance of BJP in the state. In this interview given to Rahul Joshi, Group Editor in Chief and Managing Director of Network18, PM Modi talked in detail on all the election issues. You can also watch his interview on various channels of Network 18 group on Monday night at 9 pm.
Question- 13: (Rahul Joshi): Modi ji is with us, our anchor Vilas is very connected. He wants to talk to you about something about Maharashtra.
Vilas Bade: Modi ji, greetings from Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, BJP has to save those 23 seats which it had won in 2019, but this time there is a complete mess in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena and NCP have broken up. His two partners are with you. Are you seeing any sympathy wave with or in favor of Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar?
PM Modi: Look, first thing… my greetings to all the people of Maharashtra. And it is a very good thing that I am talking to you separately on the subject of Maharashtra. Now see… it is true that a mixed government has been running there for a long time. Bilasrao was Deshmukh, since then you see. Even when Sharad Pawar was the Chief Minister, he could not become the only one with full majority. Secondly, it has been the misfortune of Maharashtra that for a long time there has not been a single Chief Minister for five years.
‘People have sympathy towards BJP…’
Not a single person for five years. Devendra Fadnavis was the first person, after a long time, who remained Chief Minister for a full term and the entire government remained spotless. Our government worked for the welfare of the people. Now sympathy should be with us. Those who contested the elections with us, those who sought votes from the people of Maharashtra by contesting the elections with us, but due to their personal ambition of becoming the Chief Minister, they were filled with ego. Because of this arrogance and personal ambition, you (Uddhav Thackeray) broke the alliance that had been going on since the time of Balasaheb Thackeray. People are angry about this while there is sympathy towards BJP.
‘The country hates dynastic politics’
Secondly, the storm that arose within Shiv Sena or the storm that arose within NCP is clearly visible. When you give priority only to your family members and do not give chance to others, then sooner or later difficulties will arise. The trouble in Sharad Pawar’s house is his family feud. Should the nephew get the command or the daughter? This is the fight within Shiv Sena. Either a capable leader should come forward or his own son. These are all their family fights. I believe that our country hates dynastic politics. If someone tries to use the word ‘sympathy’ to arouse sympathy among people, then this attempt will also fail. People cannot accept such things. Settle domestic disputes at home. Why are you ruining Maharashtra?
‘We live for Maharashtra, not for ourselves’
The second thing is that BJP has sacrificed a lot for Maharashtra. Some people thought that we wanted to become CM. It was not like that at all. We could have become CM, but we did not. We assured the people of Maharashtra that we live for Maharashtra, not for ourselves and this sympathy is in our favor in this election that such a big party, even a successful Chief Minister, has left behind his own honor and is working for the bright future of Maharashtra. Today he is serving as Deputy CM. I believe that Bengal was ruined. Kolkata, which was once at the forefront of economic growth, was ruined by politics. Unstable situations were created in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra will not be allowed to remain in this condition. Mumbai is the financial capital of the country. We should move ahead strongly in Maharashtra for the national interest. We are explaining these sentiments to the people of Maharashtra. This message is being conveyed to them and the people of Maharashtra are giving a very positive response.
