PM Modi’s review meeting on Kuwait fire incident
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Wednesday regarding the death of Indians in the Kuwait fire. While chairing the review meeting, PM Modi directed the officials to provide all possible assistance. An official statement said that Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has left for Kuwait to monitor the relief operations and bring back the bodies soon.
Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He wished the injured a speedy recovery. PM Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased Indian nationals from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The statement said that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Deputy Foreign Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Pramod Kumar Mishra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, among other senior officials, were present in the meeting.
Foreign workers lived in the building
Let us tell you that a massive fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Kuwait’s Mangaf city in the early hours of Wednesday, in which foreign workers lived. He told that at least 49 people died in this incident, mostly Indians, and more than 50 people were injured. After the incident, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh left for Kuwait on the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Minister of State for External Affairs left for Kuwait immediately to monitor the assistance of those injured in the fire incident and to coordinate with the local authorities to bring back the bodies of those killed soon.

Five firefighters were injured during the rescue operation, sources said. It said most of the people died due to suffocation caused by smoke while sleeping. A large number of people were evacuated to safer places. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait said in a post on ‘X’, “In connection with the tragic fire accident involving Indian workers today, the Embassy has issued an emergency helpline number. All concerned are requested to contact this helpline for updated information. The Embassy is committed to provide all possible assistance.” Indians constitute 21 per cent (10 lakh) of Kuwait’s total population and 30 per cent (about 9 lakh) of the workforce.
