Korba (Rep. of New Zealand). The manner in which the Gondwana Gantantra Party (Gongpa) activists carried out the incidents of sabotage and arson in Gursian has exposed the weak information system of the police and the poor system of administration. The movement was going on after the demolition of the statue of the party’s founder, Late Hira Singh Markam. A public protest meeting was also announced. During this there was a possibility of a fierce demonstration. Despite this, the workers were allowed to reach the meeting place and the crowd grew so much that the police remained helpless in front of the rioters. Even after 24 hours, no arrest proceedings have been initiated.
On February 17, there was an incident of breaking the idol of Self Hira Singh Markam installed in village Gursiyan under Bango police station. The report of this incident was written on behalf of Gongpa. On 24 February, the police arrested two accused in this case, but the party leaders were not satisfied with this action of the police. He said that by staying behind the curtain, the district member Bhola Goswami and businessman Rajesh Jaiswal brought this incident to the end, the police is sparing them. A massive agitation was announced on 28 February demanding their arrest. For Gongpa, it was nothing less than a show of strength, so apart from Chhattisgarh, workers of many districts including Anuppur, Mandla of Madhya Pradesh were called to join the movement. By noon, about seven thousand workers had gathered at the meeting place. The serious thing is that the police had no idea that such a crowd was going to gather in the meeting. Suddenly at 12 o’clock hundreds of youth workers reached Katghora-Ambikapur National Highway, about a kilometer away from the meeting place and created a ruckus. Making a nuisance, the workers started closing the shops forcibly. While vandalizing the vehicles parked in front of Bhola’s house, they took bribes in the house and created a ruckus. Rajesh’s shop is operating nearby. Five two-wheelers parked there were brought on the main road and set on fire. The male workers were holding sticks, arrows, bows and swords in their hands. Women activists also held sticks and sickles. The law and order situation deteriorated in Gursiyan for about an hour. The traders were lurking inside the houses in fear. After this additional police force arrived, then the situation could be brought under control. Had adequate security arrangements been in place at the meeting place, this incident might not have happened. The police failed to stop the incident earlier and are now making excuses to take action after investigation.
Crime registered, but not named accused
People whose houses have been vandalized and vehicles have been burnt. They are very scared, so they did not report it to the police. The offense of committing rioting and arson by becoming the police itself has been registered under sections 452, 147, 148, 149, 427, 435, 336. Police say that after investigation the names of the accused will be registered. Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma says that the video footage is being scrutinized to identify the vandals. After that the arrest will be made. On Tuesday, the second day of the incident, the police conducted a flag march to maintain peace and order in the area.
Anti-social elements caused the incident – Jaynath
Gondwana Gantantra Party’s national spokesperson Jaynath Singh says that the perpetrators of violence are not our Gongpa workers, but external anti-social elements. This is a political conspiracy to defame our party. Vehicles of our workers have also been vandalized. Action should be taken against the culprits after conducting a fair investigation into this incident.
