Dubai. Indian cricket’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s big Test record is on the target of an English batsman. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that Joe Root can break this great batsman’s record of most runs in Test cricket. This England batsman’s hunger for runs and consistency in scoring runs should remain intact for the next four years. Root became the seventh batsman to cross the 12000 run mark in Test cricket.
England batsman Joe Root has scored 12027 runs in 143 Tests so far. Tendulkar has 15921 runs in 200 Tests. Ponting has scored 13378 runs in 168 Tests and is second on the list. Virat Kohli has scored only 8848 runs after playing 113 Test matches. The Indian star is at number 19 in the list of highest Test run scorers.
Ponting said in the ICC review, “Root can break this record. He is 33 years old and is just behind 3000 runs. It remains to be seen how many Tests he plays. If he plays 10 to 14 Tests a year and scores 800 to 1000 runs every year, he can reach there in three to four years.”
If we talk about the highest Test run scorers at this time, England’s Joe Root is at number seven. Ahead of him comes England’s former captain Alastair Cook. Cook, who played 161 Tests, scored 12472 runs. Sachin Tendulkar has 15921 runs to his name while Ponting scored 13378 runs. South Africa’s former all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who played 166 Tests, scored 13289 runs. India’s former captain Rahul Dravid scored 13288 runs by playing 164 Test matches.
