Sub-Standard Medicines: Many of the medicines you are consuming may be of substandard quality. Yes, the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) has found in its investigation of medicines that 50 medicines are being manufactured of substandard quality and are being sold everywhere in the country. People are consuming these substandard medicines. The medicines that have been found to be substandard include Paracetamol 500 mg, BP medicine Telmisartan, Coughtin Cough Syrup, Epilepsy medicine Clonazepam, Painkiller Diclofenac, Multivitamin and Calcium medicine. These are such medicines that are used by lakhs of people. Most people buy and consume Paracetamol on their own when they have fever. DGCI has said that these medicines are being manufactured of very low quality.
Henna mehndi is also bad
According to Mint’s report, DCGI has found in its research that even the henna used for hair is not available in good condition. It is also being made of substandard quality. The quality of henna mehndi included in the cosmetic category is very poor. This investigation related to the quality of medicines has been done at a time when deaths of children due to Indian cough syrup have also come to light abroad. According to the Central Drug Standard Control Organization, samples of these medicines were taken in May. These samples were taken from Waghodiya in Gujarat, Solan in Himachal Pradesh, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Ambala in Haryana, Hyderabad in Andhra as well as other places. The sample of paracetamol which has been found to be substandard was taken from Ascon Healthcare in Ujjain. When the company was contacted in this regard, no reply came from its side.

The medicines that DCGI has put in the list of poor quality include life saving medicines like Lactulose solution for constipation, Telmisatone and Amlodipine for blood pressure, Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate for auto immune disease, Clonazepam tablet for serious infection. The drug samples were tested in the laboratories of both the central and state governments. In February this year, DCGI director Rajiv Raghuvanshi had asked the state governments to keep a strict vigil on the medicines being sold in the local market. Along with this, he had asked to prepare a monthly database of the tests.
