When are you entitled to collect compensation
As per the rule, it is mandatory for power distribution companies to compensate consumers if it is proved that the company has deliberately cut power, resulting in disruption of power supply for consumers. Apart from this, if a power distribution company (DISCOM) fails to provide services like connection, disconnection, reconnection, shifting, change in consumer category or load, billing services, voltage and bill, then consumers will be entitled to compensation.
Ministry of Power issued notice
A recent notice issued by the Ministry of Power states that any delay in providing these services (mentioned above) will lead to compensation to consumers by the distribution company. 24*7 power supply is the right of consumers and if a distribution company does intentional load shedding, then consumers have the right to claim compensation from the distribution company.
How to claim compensation?
Compensation for various deficiencies such as faulty meters, interruption in power supply etc. is mandated to be paid either automatically or by filing a complaint as specified in the rule. “Consumers will be compensated automatically for parameters that can be monitored remotely, when it can be successfully established that there is any lapse in the performance of the distribution licensee,” the power ministry said.
